Cutting 2.0 technology has proven to be extremely successful since being introduced to the market in 2013. From its origins at AKE in the SuperSilent sliding table saw with manual feed, it has been consistently developed and expanded, starting with the milling cutter range and now moving on to panel saws with mechanical feed. In the meantime, significant practical experience has been collected which has caused users to take notice of these developments.

 

Conventional saw blades are relatively loud and subject to intense wear. Anyone who uses them must check meticulously that the cutting quality remains high and that hearing protection is worn. The corresponding downtime required for tool replacement has a particularly negative effect on heavy industrial use – but even small businesses are not entirely satisfied with the current need to replace saw blades frequently.

 

 

 

For the cutting 2.0 technology, the tooth geometry has been changed and the typical gullet has either been reduced to a minimum or removed entirely, depending on the product. The majority of the chips are removed via a belt zone beneath the teeth – only a small fraction reaches the saw body. These two special features have been patented as MicroGeo® and ChipBelt®. The advantages of the cutting 2.0 technology were first implemented in the SuperSilent saw blade for manual feed. Its noise level is a mere 75 dB(A) when idling, which corresponds to the loudness of a vacuum cleaner.

 

 

 

The considerably more attractive advantage of the SuperSilent for many operators is its incredible economic efficiency, which outshines that of previous saw blades. Longer tool lives and lower setup costs result in savings on saw blades and personnel, less waste and higher cutting quality mean savings on material. Lower energy consumption mean that users also save money on running costs.

 

 

 

Following the success of the SuperSilent and its successful implementation in the cutter range, AKE have succeeded in combining all of the known advantages of machining 2.0 technology in the panel saw blade 2.0. The development team created an optimised tooth geometry which, in combination with a ChipBelt, also helps to minimise multiple machining. The toothing, which is the same size as usual, enables easy re-sharpening with up to 17 re-sharpening cycles.

 

 

 

Minimierter SpanraumThe tool has already been available on the market for a few months as a panel sizing saw blade 2.0 – which has allowed plenty of time to subject it to intensive practical tests. The results were remarkably convincing. After 54,829 running metres with a feed rate of up to 80 m/min, the tool lives were up to 70% longer than the previous times – on average, they increased by 40%. Noise emissions were reduced by 10 dB(A), which corresponds to a noise reduction of 50%. At the end of the tool life of the panel saw 2.0, testers saved 35% compared to conventional saw blades. The 25% reduction in the cutting width in the thin cut version reduces energy consumption and waste by a quarter when in use. In summary, the success of machining 2.0 technology indicates that a new generation is on its way which will offer a real alternative to typical tools.
